Albany Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. is an Oregon 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit. We’ve been serving our local communities for more than 18 years.
Albany Area Habitat for Humanity is an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We coordinate all aspects of fundraising; site selection; partner family selection and support; and mortgage servicing from our local community. We’re a licensed, bonded and insured General Contractor with two licensed General Contractors on staff.
We’re dedicated to building simple low-cost homes by forming partnerships with low-income families in need of decent and affordable housing. We believe homeownership is a vital step to helping families break the cycle of poverty and contributes to pride in families and communities. Habitat for Humanity has a tried and tested partnership approach that makes families in need of shelter a key part of their own housing solution. We work hard with volunteers and donors who invest time and money into the partnership – so that families in need of housing can help build, or remodel, then buy their own home on terms they can afford.
To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to
join us in partnership with families in need.

Sweat Equity
We’re dedicated to ending poverty housing throughout the
world as a matter of justice, mercy, compassion and
humility but we’re not a “giveaway” program. We like to
think of our program as “a Hand Up, Not a Hand Out”. In
addition to a down payment for the portion of the buyers
closing costs and the monthly mortgage payments,
homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor
(called sweat equity) and time into the work of their
home or the homes of others.
Sweat Equity for applications
for one adult only
= 250 hours
Sweat Equity for two or more adults
= 500 hours
Christian Housing Ministry Program
Habitat has an open-door policy: All who desire to be a
part of this work are welcome, regardless of religious
preference or background. We have a policy of building
with people in need regardless of race or religion. We
welcome homeowner applicants, volunteers and supporters
from all backgrounds.
Importance of clean, decent, and
stable housing
Habitat for Humanity has shown that building homes does
more than put a roof over someone’s head. In clean,
decent, stable housing:
-
Families can provide stability
for their children.
-
A family’s sense of dignity
and pride grow.
-
Health, physical safety, and
security improve
-
Educational and job prospects
increase.
Through volunteer
labor and tax-deductible donations of money, land and
materials we build and remodel simple, decent houses.
Families are selected based on their level of need,
willingness to work, acceptance of responsibilities and
ability to repay a mortgage.
